National Triples success for Polegrove

The Polegrove triples team, Rachel Mackriell, Nina Allbut and Denise Hodd, representing Sussex put in some brilliant performances to be crowned National triples Champions at the National finals Leamington Spa.
Playing on beautiful greens that had recently been used for the commonwealth games they defeated Cornwall 19-8 in the first round.

The second game was a tough one against a strong Devon team, but they fought back from behind and were level going into the last end when picked up 2 shots to win 18-16
They played Hertfordshire in the quarter final winning 14-12 so took on Durham in the semi final, they were always in command and won 24-10.

The final was played on the “show rink” used for the commonwealth games finals and it was a fantastic show of bowling, playing against a Leicestershire team that included Jamie-Lea Winch who had won gold at the games they got off to a great start and were 5-0 up after 2 ends. The standard of bowls was worthy of a National final and the heads were very tight but they kept their noses in front till the 14th end when they were 11 all but they managed to keep 2 ahead till the last end and covered all woods and although losing 1 shot it wasn’t enough for Leicestershire so Sussex were crowned Champions!

They will now go on to represent England at the British Isles Championships next season
